Perhaps the most effective approach is to have a dog pinpoint all the hiding places, so they can be properly treated for good.

Bed bugs are professionals when it comes to finding a hiding place. When spotted, they move fast. It is better to catch them quickly when in a dark place with a flashlight. While it may not be desirable to be up at this time of day, the peak activity time for them is during the pre-dawn hours.

Bed bugs are actual wilegnss insects so back when beds were made of organic materials (think straw) there were certain precautions people took to keep them out of the bed. They kept blankets out of the floor, beds away from walls, and some went to extreme measures like putting the bed posts in cans of repulsive liquids (sometimes Kerosene) to keep them from climbing the posts. Even tho these little bloodsuckers don’t carry disease, their bite is quite painful and itchy. The last thing anyone wanted was their bed to be infested by them. These days bedbugs are not as common due to mattresses being made differently and difference in lifestyles. They are still out there tho!
